What is a Kinetic Sculpture Race?

It's a race between teams of people who have designed and built their ideal human-powered all-terrain sculpture and are now obsessed with proving that their sculpture is the best. To do so they will have to ride their sculpture over 10 miles of city streets; through 100 feet of deep, thick, sticky mud; down 2 miles of the Willamette River; across 3000 feet of sun-dried clay pasture and over a 100 foot sand trap. And they have to be the fastest, do it all with pedal power, and have their sculpture survive the trip. But speed and design aren't everything - teams are also scored on the artistry of their sculpture and the overall show they put on for the spectators.

DaVinci Days invites you to come to our fifth annual Kinetic Sculpture Race on Friday, July 18th, Saturday, July 19th, and Sunday, July 20th. We have a good line-up of teams --- with ten Willamette Valley teams (including seven veteran teams from last year's race), and ten out of town teams coming from Washington, Oregon and California (including the return of the Yakima and Calistoga teams). The teams will be presenting their sculptures for the art judges at 5:00 PM Friday at the main stage.

The sculptures will be going through their pre-race check-in and demonstrating their braking and steering abilities for the judges on Saturday morning. At 1:00 PM there will be a parade of all Kinetic Sculpture, Electrothon, and Human Powered Vehicles through the streets of downtown Corvallis. This will be followed at 2:00 PM by the road race which begins with a Le Mans start at 14th and Campus Way and includes an off road segment and sand trap at Bald Hill Park with the finish line back at 14th and Campus Way.
