A response to a comment on the User Friendly cartoon of June 27, 2002:

The law that congress made is the one that says "this is what the pledge of allegiance is" and President Eisenhower signed in 1954. Before that, religion was left out of it as it should be. It should not be on our money either: the whole point of "make no law respecting an establishment of religion" is that the government should not do anything that implies one religion is favored over another, or even that there is a preference between religious and non-religious.

Things like "one nation under god" are but a small first step towards the theocracy that most of the religious right are doing their best to bring to this country. Look to the middle east to see what life under a theocracy is like.

Although it's a nice ideal that "the government is us", remember that Hitler was elected...
